Each week, I’m given a prompt from a writing community that I am a part of. This week’s word was “music.” I usually provide a short devotional with each writing prompt. However, this week, I was inspired to give you my top 25 worship songs.
This list is completely subjective and I chose these songs based on how they made an impact during a particular season or event in my life. Below, I will also provide you with the song name, artist, and link to the song. In no particular order, let’s start the list.
My Top 25 Worship Songs
1. I Can Only Imagine by MercyMe
This song speaks about what it could look like when we finally meet Jesus. On a more personal level, this song provided so much comfort for me as I dealt with the loss of my own father. I know I will see him again one day when I transition to heaven.
2. How He Loves Us by Kim Walker-Smith
I just love any worship produced by Kim Walker-Smith. She is my favorite worship singer by far. I first discovered her songs when I was in college and was ushered into the presence of God like never before. You’ll see more songs on this list by Kim Walker-Smith. ๐
3. Nothing Else by Cody Carnes
I pray this is the anthem of my heart. The lyrics say this, “Nothing else will do, I just want You.” Nothing else in this world will satisfy like Jesus Christ. Psalm 42:2 says, “My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” This song fuels the desire to only want Jesus.
4. O Come to the Altar by Elevation Worship
This song will always be a special because it was one of the songs playing in the church before my husband and I got married. We felt the presence of God as we moved towards our vows and covenant. One of our prayers as we got married was to have God’s presence in the ceremony and reception. This song played a part in that.
5. This is How I Fight My Battles by Darlene Zschech
I had the opportunity to hear Darlene Zschech in person and all I can say is “wow.” I felt the weight of God’s Glory come into the room like a rushing wind. This song is a battle cry to let the enemy know that we win. If you know her testimony, you can feel her victory in her song!
6. Give Me A Clean Heart by Fred Hammond
I know EVERY SINGLE WORD of this song! The simplicity of the lyrics and the smooth jazz sound is what makes this one of my faves. Fred Hammond and Yolanda Adams were two of my favorite gospel artists in high school. This was certainly on repeat going to school every morning before school.
7. This is the Air I Breathe by Joe Mettle
Forever one of my top worship songs. One of my favorite versions of this song was sung by Tasha Cobbs live. However, this version by Joe Mettle is powerful as well. I’m a huge fan of songs about God’s presence and stringed instruments. ๐
8. This Love by Housefires
When I use to live in Atlanta, I would attend this group’s worship nights with friends. It was such an amazing and fun season of my life. Not only is this worship group one of my faves, but this song is my husband’s favorite. It had to be in the top 25. ๐
9. Lead Me To The Cross by Hillsong
Take a look at some of the lyrics of this song, ” Lead Me to the Cross, where Your love poured out. Bring me to my knees, Lord, I lay Me down. Rid Me of Myself, I belong to You. Oh lead me.” This song brought me to another level of surrender in my walk with God. I am thankful for this song.
10. Sweet Holy Spirit by Pastor E. Dewey Smith
I grew up in a Baptist church and songs like this take me back to my roots and where it all started spiritually for me. Hearing and singing this song fills me up of sweet memories of my childhood. Not to mention, I feel the sweet presence of the Holy Spirit every time I hear this song.
11. Imagine Me by Kirk Franklin
This song gave me so much hope when I was dealing with brokenness and trauma as a young girl. The words in the song, “It’s all gone,” was all I needed to hear to get me through to another day.
12. Waymaker by Leeland
What an encouraging song to remind us that God is working even when we don’t see it. He is our Waymaker, miracle worker, promise keeper, and light in darkness! I play this song when I get discouraged and cannot see a way out of certain situations. After hearing this song, my soul is immediately encouraged again.
13. Break Every Chain by Tasha Cobbs Leonard
Christine Caine once said, “A gift will fill a room, but the ANOINTING breaks yokes, chains, and bondages.” Tasha Cobbs has the anointing on her voice to break chains and this song is a testimony to this.
14. For Your Glory by Jaye Thomas
I love the purity of worship by Jaye Thomas. Not only do I love his worship songs but also his connection to worshiping in South Korea. If you did not know, I am half Korean. I always thought his connection to Korea was unique and interesting. Korea has historically been known to have powerful revivals and moves with God.
15. Good Good Father by Chris Tomlin
I’m so thankful for this song. Chris Tomlin beautifully expresses the nature of our Heavenly Father as a Good Father that is perfect, loves and provides for us. Let’s not believe anything less.
16. Here Again by Bethel Live
Bethel worship has created so many songs that made an impact on my life. From Steffany Gretzinger, Jenn Johnson, Kalley Heilingenthal, and others, their worship has made a difference in my life. This song is just one of the many that I pay tribute to Bethel in my top 25 worship songs.
17. Great Are You Lord by All Sons & Daughters
I think this will be a classic. Songs that highlight the greatness of God is what worship should always be about. God is the giver of life, breath, hope, and our restorer! Yes, Great is Our Lord and it is my delight to give Him the praise back He deserves.
18. Fear is Not My Future by Todd Galberth
Fear is a tactic of the enemy to stop you from your destiny. Do not let fear stop you. The anointing of Todd Galberth and Tasha Cobbs in this song is powerful and inspiring to say hello to a future that God has waiting for you.
19. Jireh by Maverick City
Maverick City worship has taken off these past few years and has really made an imprint on Christian music. This is one of my favorites of Maverick City and a reminder that God’s got you! Worrying will not add a single hour to our life. Let’s trust in God as our provider.
20. I Exalt Thee by Kim Walker
To be honest, I have several more Kim Walker songs I can add to this list. ๐ I Exalt Thee is a timeless worship song that is powerful in itself. As Kim Walker sings this, you will be able to feel the presence of God in a remarkable way.
21. Goodness of God by Cece Winans
The faithfulness of Cece Winans is so beautiful. It is shown through her many songs over the years and even in this beautiful song. I love seeing the faithfulness of God in her family as well through the music video. I’m thankful for God using her to be a blessing to our generation.
22. Something Real by Jonathan Ogden
I just discovered this artist in 2023. He has a very authentic and pure worship style. He even plays worship sessions on his youtube channel that are worth listening to. Even though he is a recently discovered artist of mine, I had to put him in my top 25 worship songs.
23. You Are Holy by Lisa McClendon
My second favorite genre of music that I like to listen to is jazz. Why not combine worship and jazz/blues together? Lisa McClendon marries both her soul style with her love for God and I absolutely love it.
24. Worthy by Elevation Worship
The lyrics of this song is what impacts me every time. One of the verses says, “And now my shame is gone. I stand amazed in Your love undeniable. Your grace goes on and on. And I will sing of Your goodness forevermore.”
25. First Love by Kari Jobe
I have been listening to Kari Jobe since 2008. Yet, I heard her live and in person for the first time in 2021 at Motion Conference. She sung “First Love” with her husband Cody Carnes and that moment will forever be marked in my life as a spiritual encounter.
I hope these songs can bless you as they have and continue to bless me. Let me know in the comments below if any of these resonate with you. Also, I’d love to hear about some other great worship songs that you listen to!
