My three year old currently has this enjoyment and infatuation for playing hide and seek. At first, I played along just to please his enthusiasm for the game. Now, I can honestly say it’s one of the most fun activities I do with him.
When we first started playing the game, my son was horrible at hiding. He would hide in the same room I was counting in. Not to mention, he would reveal his cover with uncontrollable chuckles. My son likes to be the boss. So when it was my turn to hide he would tell me where to go so he could find me.
The Thrill of the Game
As we kept playing the game, I gradually made it more challenging to find me. For me, the thrill of the game was being found. In one particular instance, I hid somewhere new in our laundry room. My son was getting discouraged he could not find me and on the brink of giving up. So I let out subtle noises to lead him my way.
When he heard my voice, his gladness and joy came back. The look on his face of satisfaction and my excitement that he found me was priceless. Though hide and seek is an entertaining game, I couldn’t help but think how our Heavenly Father loves to be found by His children. Jeremiah 29:13-14 says this:
“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,” declares the Lord, “and will bring you back from captivity…”
Jeremiah 29:13-14a NIV
Jesus wants us to pursue Him with all of our heart! When we do, the great news is that we will find Him. His voice, the Word of God, will lead us to Him. Matthew 6:33 states, “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
Here are some reflection questions:
- What is your reason for seeking God? What are you looking for?
- Do you believe that God desires a personal relationship with you?
- Am I seeking God’s Word in seasons of discouragement?
Let me pray: Dear Heavenly Father, thank you that you desire relationship with your children. You are not a far away God that wants to remain hidden and aloof. You are our Heavenly Father that blesses His children with Your Powerful Presence and with good things.
Jesus, let Your Word be our guiding light back to You. For anyone that is feeling discouraged, let them look to Your Word to hear Your Comforting Voice! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
Additional Devotions:
Oh my, I love this new perspective on Hide & Seek. Our granddaughter adores playing the game and has some of the same little twists to the way she plays. But what lovely picture to think of God’s delight in being found by us in the same way as we delight being found by our little ones in the game! Visiting from FMF#9
Thank you for reading! Yes, what a delight it is to seek our King!
This little sweet game of hiding go seek between mom and son is the perfect illustration on how the father loves us!
When we seek him with all of our hearts our lives will be enriched with so much joy, peace and love by our Heavenly Father!
Yes! Hebrews 11:6 mentions that God rewards those who earnestly seek him! Thank you for reading. 馃檪
Ladron the Heeler had a game
of hiding the TV remote
with no guilt and with no shame,
so that she might have a vote
in how I spent my fading days;
if it was too hard for me,
she would find the means and ways
to completely let Barb see
what I had done with my time
(you hid his tools just over there?).
She reported every crime,
though it all might not be fair.
And though my dear Ladron’s now gone,
in Chihuahua paws, the game goes on.
